Nash Baroque: French Baroque Treasures with Soprano Bethany Hill

For this much-anticipated event, the renowned ensemble Nash Baroque, with soprano Bethany Hill, bring to life tales of love, despair and triumph from 18th century France, with flute, violin, viola da gamba, theorbo and harpsichord, in a program entitled "Les Amours des Dieux."

The cantatas of Michel Pignolet de Montéclair and Louis Nicolas Clérambault unfold as miniature dramas featuring mythological Greek gods and humans with all their passions, weaknesses and heartbreak. “Every myth is a drama in human form”, as Gaston Bachelard put it, and these intimate vocal works, together with richly evocative instrumental dance suites of Couperin, Phillidor and LeClair explore timeless themes of love, loss and metamorphosis that echo through the ages.

Central Coast Chamber Choir: Early J.S. Bach and Buxtehude [ Santa Cruz ]

Come experience the transcendent beauty of J.S. Bach's early Cantatas and Buxtehude's Missa Brevis with the Central Coast Chamber Choir.
We invite you to join us as we immerse ourselves in the early works of J.S.Bach and Dieterich Buxtehude featuring Bach's: Actus Tragicus, BWV 106, Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich, BWV 150, and Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden, BWV 230 and Dieterich Buxtehude's Missa Brevis.
The Central Coast Chamber Choir is comprised of professional and semi-professional vocalists under the musical guidance of Director Daniel Henriks.

A dynamic group of less than 20 local singers, mostly local to Monterey County, we aim to feature excellent and rare chamber works in partnership with professional musicians across the Central Coast from San Francisco to Five Cities, laying the foundation for a more vibrant choral community across central California.

This season we'll be accompanied by a baroque orchestra featuring period historical instruments. Join us in creating the magic of Bach in live performance.

Central Coast Chamber Choir: J.S. Bach and Buxtehude [ Carmel ]

The Central Coast Chamber Choir will share the transcendent beauty of J.S.
Bach's early Cantatas and Buxtehude's Missa Brevis with audiences on the Monterey Peninsula
this April. “These rarely performed works deal with very essential questions about our human
existence,” Daniel Henriks explains. “These pieces are very blunt about the fact that our lives
will end some day and that there is suffering and pain in the world. But they also show the
value of life and why we should make the most out of every moment. There is comfort in music,
faith and community.” Daniel continues, “It is fascinating that people during Bach’s time,
several hundred years ago, were seeking answers to the same questions as we do today. Bach
so masterfully understands the human psychology and offers a way to make peace with the
open questions of life.”
These concerts will feature: Actus Tragicus, BWV 106, Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich, BWV
150, and Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden, BWV 230 and Dietrich Buxtehude's Missa Brevis,
BuxWV 114.
